FHGC eNews May-June, 2022

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

It was with great anticipation that a big turnout of members and guests attended our April program GUO PEI: Couture Fantasy, chaired by Eva Monroe. The presenter was Maureen Fox, docent from the FAMSF. We saw a slideshow of fantastical dresses in intricate embroidered fabric, all hand stitched and created over many thousand hours of intensive work. The finished products were truly original works of art. Maureen gave a very interesting and informative talk about Pei's life and work.

Following the program, a spectacular tea table with delicious cakes awaited the hungry crowd. The décor table beautifully adorned with orchids and calla lilies, was an artfully display of decorative books and posters, lovely blue and white Jardinieres from Eva Monroe and Mandarin Blue porcelain from Yen Bachmeier, all inspired by Guo Pei’s sculpted Ming Dynasty Porcelain Vase Gown. Thank you to all the bakers and contributors: Marcia Elias, Kathleen Fong, Darlene Hartman, Saundra McCormick, Ingeborg McGlynn, Eva Monroe, Laura Outsen and our guest Irene Lo.

The set-up of the clubhouse was done by Anna Bolechowski, Eva & Mike Monroe and Yen & Mel Bachmeier. They were joined for the clean-up at the end of the event by Dena Aslanian-Williams, Zaia Vera and Darlene and daughter Amy Hartman. Thank you all for the work you did. A very special Thank You goes to one of our directors, Saundra McCormick, who welcomed all attendees and also collected the guest fees. It is a job that needs to be done and Saundra graciously did it.

Before the program started our parliamentarian Kathe Farrell conducted the election of the new slate of officers. Our horticulture chair Ingeborg McGlynn gave an essential to-do list in our gardens. Photos of this event can be viewed here.

All members are invited to the May 16th gathering. That is when we will install the newly elected officers and enjoy our traditional Strawberry Social. Attendees are expected to come dressed up and wear your beautiful hats/fascinators. It’ll be great fun as we close out the 2021-22 season! Starting the next season, June 6th is the time when the new Board will meet to plan for fiscal year 2022-2023 program activities. We encourage everyone to come up with ideas and suggestions that would make next year fun, enriching, stimulating and exciting at the Garden Club. Many thanks.
