PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Among all the days of rain, the garden club's meeting on Monday, March 20, 2023, again was graced with sunshine. Thank you weatherman, we certainly have good connections.

The Invisible Mammal program, chaired by Saundra McCormick, was well attended, with a lot of information concerning the preservation of the bat population and the threat posed by a fungus attacking the bats. So far there is no remedy to combat that disease. The filmmaker of an upcoming documentary, Kristin Tiechen, gave very good information for making our garden bat friendly. Bats eat insects, pollinate, produce natural fertilizer and are absolutely essential for the welfare of our ecosystem.

My thanks go to our house committee of Anna Bolechowski and Nancy Hagosian for table settings and flower arrangements. It all looked beautiful. Thank you Claudia Belshaw and Stan Puck for helping me setting up the clubhouse with chairs for the event. Putting all the chairs back into storage, I briefly saw Amy Quirk and Zaia Vera and all other helpers, many thanks.

At the business meeting, Saundra thanked her refreshment team of Kathleen Fong and daughter Melanie, Marcia Elias, Kimberley Kruse, Laura Outsen, Ann Rieger-Mathew, Claudia Belshaw and Ingeborg McGlynn. The table was an incredible display of good things to eat.

Many thanks go to Zaia Vera for having taken care of our audio equipment, which worked like a charm. Zaia also gave a report on the Nominating Committee which is still in need of a couple of volunteers to fill positions for the upcoming year. Please let Zaia know if you are interested and would like to be part of an active garden club.

Ingeborg gave a little preview of our April program in the absence of Eva Monroe. A docent guided program of Sargent and Spain which is currently being featured at the Legion of Honor. It should be a super program and as always it will be followed by tea. Please bring a guest, there will be a guest fee of $10.

A short gardening list was given by Ingeborg: weed, plant, fertilize and above all, enjoy your garden. Sluggo, a non-toxic last supper for slugs and snails was recommended to use in your garden.

Looking forward to seeing you in April, stay safe and healthy,

Ingeborg McGlynn
