MARIE-ANDRÉ CHEVRETTE, Violin

Exceptional talent, compelling and fiery performer, rich sonority, effortless technique, and an innate sense of musicality are some of the qualities that have been attributed to the Canadian native violinist Marie-André Chevrette.

The Canadian violinist was six years old when she entered the Montreal Music Conservatory under the tutelage of Johanne Arel, Raymond Dessaints and Denis Brott. After receiving her diploma from the institution, she decided to complete her Master’s Degree with Kathleen Winkler at Rice University, in Houston, Texas. Over the years, she also worked with such famed pedagogues as Gérard Jarry, professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, Trevors Williams, professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Bogodar Kotorovitch, professor at the Kiev Conservatory, Sidney Hart (US) and Levon Ambartsumyan, professor at the Moscow State Conservatory.

A finalist in the Canadian Music Competition, three-time recipient of the Scott Paper Ltd. Grant, winner of a Rice University scholarship, Marie-André Chevrette has won several competitions that led to invitations from American orchestras. She was the first-prize winner of the Music Academy of the West Competition in Santa Barbara (California) in 1996 and of the Shepherd School Symphony Competition the following year. She also received the John Newmark Prize of the Prix d’Europe Competition in 1998.

Marie-André Chevrette's artistic work reflects a broad spectrum of musical interests. She performs widely as concerto soloist and recitalist, and is regularly involved in chamber music activities.

In recent seasons, Ms Chevrette has been a guest soloist with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, with the Cairo Opera House Orchestra, with the Sinfonia de Lanaudière, the Sinfonia de Montréal and the Ensemble Amati.

As recitalist, she has toured Canada, the United States, France, Belgium, Italy and Egypt, and regularly performs and records with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Marie-André Chevrette collaborates with cellist Denis Brott and pianist Walter Delahunt in chamber music and can often be found at major American festivals as teacher and soloist, most recently the Pierre Monteux Music Festival and the Mimir Chamber Music Festival.

This summer 2012, Ms Chevrette will be in San Francisco for her debut with the Musical Days in Forest Hill Festival.
